9 Times Vaping Was Featured in Hollywood
Before you started vaping you probably didn’t notice anybody else who did it – at least until you went up to someone on the street and asked, “Hey, what’s that?!”
Once you start, though, you tend to notice people everywhere doing it. And in the last couple of years it’s becoming more common to see it on TV or at the movies, too. Vapers are everywhere!
There’s plenty of well-known celebrity vapers out there. Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Katy Perry, John Cusack, Katherine Heigl, Samuel L. Jackson and even Justin Bieber have been spotted with an e-cig in their hands.
Now some celebrities are pushing the cause further, using vapes in their movies and TV shows. It’s a great way for those who believe in the benefits of vaping to get the word out. Here’s 9 times vaping has shown up in TV shows or at the movies!
Captain Jack is a great vaping advocate and has been spotted out-and-about with his vape many times. He was one of the first to use one on-screen, too, when he starred in The Tourist alongside Cameron Diaz. He happily vaped away on the train while reading a book.
Presidents are a bit of a theme in this post. Quaid played President Bill Clinton in the film The Special Relationship, but it was the poorly-reviewed 2012 thriller Beneath the Darkness that showed him as a vaper, puffing away on a cig-a-like.
Cusack has been a major Hollywood star for three decades now, and he’s actually been featured vaping in multiple films, including David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars and the 2014 Aussie action flick Drive Hard. He was even shown vaping in the trailer of that one!
The American Beauty Oscar-winning actor has been a huge star on the small screen for the last few years, starring in the Netflix original House of Cards. As politician Frank Underwood (we won’t spoil how high up the ladder he goes…), Spacey vapes during season two to satisfy his nicotine cravings. In one scene he offers his wife a puff, calling it “the addiction without consequences.” If only more people in the government felt the way Underwood did!
You may not know her name, but Sutherland plays the daughter of – once again – the US President (played by Seinfeld‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) in HBO’s excellent comedy, Veep. In one season four episode, she causes a furore that her Presidential mother must deal with when she’s caught vaping and a Washington newspaper decides to publish a story about it.
The science fiction show Sense8 from the Wachowski siblings (the team behind The Matrix, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas) is another Netflix original that features vaping. Some of the things Riley vapes may not exactly be legal, but she is using a pretty cool setup – a Provari mod with an Aspire Nautilus tank!
What is it with premium cable TV and vaping? McAdams plays a Ventura County detective who vapes – to the great delight and frustration of her co-workers – in season two of HBO’s True Detective.
The star of Roseanne and frequent collaborator with the Oscar-winning Coen brothers (Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou?) played mob boss Marshall in the third Hangover film. He clearly loves vaping away on his cig-a-like.
But we think the best scene belongs to Jack Black in 2014 comedy Sex Tape. This one definitely isn’t for the kids, but then neither is vaping. Black plays the owner of fictitious company YouPorn, whose headquarters Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel break into in order to delete their amateur sex tape from its servers. Black confronts them, firing off a hilarious list of adult website names while he vapes on an Ego pen.
