Last time we gave you nine times vaping was featured in the movies or on television, and this time we’re back with eight (well, a few more than eight) more times that vaping made its way to either the big screen or the small screen.
Ray Winstone, Zipper
Zipper is a 2015 American film directed by Mora Stephens and starring Patrick Wilson, Lena Headey and Richard Dreyfuss. But it’s the hard boiled Ray Winstone character Coaker who has traded in the cigarettes for a healthier option.
Michael Shannon, 99 Homes
Michael Shannon is one of the best character actors working in Hollywood today. After stellar turns in Revolutionary Road, Take Shelter and The Iceman, he starred in foreclosure drama-thriller 99 Homes, where he puffed away on a cig-a-like.
Milla Jovovich, Cymbeline
After slaying zombies throughout the Resident Evil series, the stunning Milla Jovovich took up with a vape in the Ed Harris co-starring Cymbeline, about dirty cops, an outlaw bikie gang and a drug kingpin.
Rodrigo Santoro, Focus
Will Smith and Margot Robbie may have been the marquee names on Focus, released in 2015 about a veteran con man, but Rodrigo Santoro of Westworld is our vaping hero here.
Zac Efron, Bad Neighbours & Dirty Grandpa
Zac Efron has long been a user of vapes, and he continues to put them in his movies. From a pretty standard pen-style device in 2014’s Bad Neighbours (known simply as “Neighbors” overseas) to a high-powered, cloud chasing mod in the Robert De Niro-starring Dirty Grandpa two years later, the progression has been pretty much what most long-time vapers have experienced personally.
The Crew of Deadliest Catch
#Vapelife indeed (check the back of the yellow jacket if you’re confused). Many of the crew of the ships in Deadliest Catch have switched to vaping (I mean, how did they keep their cigarettes dry in that stormy weather, anyway?) but it’s the Northwestern’s Matt Bradley who has made it a lifestyle. He now owns a vape shop in North America!
2 Broke Girls
Okay, so maybe it’s not the most sincere portrayal of vaping, but 2 Broke Girls did feature an episode with a bunch of “vaping hipsters” blowing clouds in the restaurant. I guess it’s best to show both sides of the coin, because most vapers wouldn’t enjoy seeing that, either.
Our favourite cartoon family has been a constant when it comes to vaping. It’s appeared in many of the Springfield clan’s episodes, from cig-a-likes to eGo-style pen devices. Not everyone was a fan, however – Bart coughed up a lung, and Patty and Selma missed the stained teeth and smelly fingers of their traditional cigarettes. The geekiest character – Milhouse’s dad – loved his vape, though, and Groundskeeper Willie modified his bagpipe into a cloud-chucking monster.
BONUS – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
It’s not a movie or TV, but Big Boss from the Metal Gear Solid video games has always smoked – a big, chunky cigar. In the most recent iteration, 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, he’s using a Phantom Cigar vape pen. That’s pretty awesome.
So there’s (more than) eight more examples of vaping making it to the screen.
Do you have any more examples of mainstream media paying attention to the healthier choice?
